Weld-On Winches

For trailer decks with no C-channel or L-track, the weld-on winch mounts directly to the frame rail. Same 22:1 gear drive and 6,600 lb working load limit as the sliding line, with the mounting bracket carrying load into the frame. Position is fixed once welded, so plan anchor spacing first.

Models

When a weld-on is the right answer

Only when there is no cargo track to mount into. If the trailer has C-channel or L-track, a sliding winch is the better choice in every respect — it repositions to suit the load, it can be replaced without cutting, and it is nearly 4 lb lighter.

The trade-off is that position is fixed once welded. That makes anchor spacing a design decision rather than an operational one, and it has to be worked from the minimum tie-down count for the longest article the trailer will ever carry, not the typical one. Getting it wrong means cutting and re-welding.

Welding should be done by a qualified welder to the trailer manufacturer's frame specification. The bracket carries load into the frame rail, which is why this model is heavier than the sliding line at 17.19 lb (7.8 kg).

Common to every model

  • 22:1 worm gear drive — roughly 40 lb of force at the handle to reach working tension.
  • 24.8 mm handle socket. One handle fits every winch in the range.
  • Service temperature range −40 °F to 266 °F on the specified grease.
  • Rated capacity feeds the aggregate calculation in 49 CFR 393.106(d). The minimum tie-down count is a separate test.
