What it is

The winch handle is the operating tool for our gear-driven winches. It fits the 24.8 mm socket on the gear body and turns the worm gear to tension or release the strap.

At 3.1 lb (1.42 kg) it is lighter than a conventional steel winch bar, because it transmits torque through a gear rather than acting as a lever against the drum.

Why it is not a winch bar

A traditional winch bar is a lever: the operator inserts it into the drum and pulls, and the drum resists. If the bar slips or the load shifts, stored energy drives it back — the kickback that causes most winch-bar injuries.

This handle drives a 22:1 worm gear instead. The mechanical advantage comes from the gear, so working tension needs roughly 40 lb of force at the handle, and nothing is inserted into the drum.

Compatibility

Fits every winch in the range — Double C Slider, Double L Slider, Disc C Slider, Extended-Length Double C Slider, and the Weld-On Winch. One handle serves a whole trailer.

Do not substitute other tools. Using a pipe, cheater bar, or impact tool on the gear socket can damage the gear set, and voids the warranty.

How many to order

One per operator, not one per winch. Fleets typically order a spare per truck.
